Chicken, eggs, fodder prices surge in Gaza due to Ukrainian war

The Russian-Ukrainian war adversely affected the prices of the Palestinian market, adding insult to injury for Gazans who are under the pressure of war, blockade, and the closure of the crossings.

Since Gaza Strip is an import-dependent city, the high prices of fodder imported from Ukraine and Russia caused the strip’s consumer market prices to skyrocket, especially in the chicken meat and egg sector.

Commodity shortages, low earnings, and delayed or unpaid salaries have exacerbated the suffering of Gazans. In light of the lack of gas amid severe cold waves, most of the chicken breeders in the Strip resorted to heating the poultry house with firewood.

However, the cold and the spread of viruses among the chickens delayed egg production, causing quantities to decrease and prices to rise as well.
