Vietnamese Prime Minister concludes the work schedule of the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting

Prime Minister Pham Minjin and a high-level Vietnamese delegation arrived in Hanni early on Sunday morning and successfully completed the schedule of the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting in Jakarta, Indonesia. This is his first work trip abroad because Chin was elected Prime Minister of Vietnam earlier this month. During the trip, Prime Minister Qin attended the ASEAN Leaders’ Meeting. Meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo; meeting with Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Sultan; meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen, Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin Bilateral meetings; and received ASEAN Secretary-General Lin Jhai. At the ASEAN heads of state and government meeting, regional leaders focused on the construction of the ASEAN community, the group’s external relations, and issues of concern at the regional and international levels. Regarding the situation in Myanmar, Qian Qichen said that Vietnam is a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council from 2020 to 2021, and a permanent member of the Security Council in April 2021, and is committed to creating favorable conditions for ASEAN member states to cooperate closely with the United Nations. The forum met bilaterally to win support for the EU’s peaceful efforts, and Chin received congratulations from leaders of ASEAN countries on his election as prime minister, as well as Vietnam’s success in preventing and combating COVID-19 and assuming ASEAN’s role as a foreign head of state in 2020. They confirmed that they attach great importance to this and hope to further strengthen cooperation and friendly relations with Vietnam. Qian Qichen reiterated that Vietnam continues to pursue a foreign policy of independence, self-sufficiency, multilateralism and diversification of international relations, which is part of the responsibility of the international community and proactive international integration. The ASEAN countries agreed to further expand cooperation in many aspects, especially in investment, trade and response to emerging epidemics (such as COVID-19).
