Jonathan Majors, who stars in the movie Creed III, has been arrested for domestic assault charges, including strangulation and harassment. The New York Police Department said the charges stem from a domestic dispute with a 30-year-old woman. Mr. Majors has been released, and his lawyer has denied any wrongdoing.

The NYPD received a 911 call from a Manhattan apartment in the Chelsea district, reporting a domestic dispute between Jonathan Majors and a 30-year-old woman. The woman was taken to the hospital with minor head and neck injuries. Mr. Majors was arrested but later released from custody on Saturday night, according to an NYPD spokesperson.

According to his statement , Jonathan Majors’ lawyer stated that the actor was “totally innocent” and claimed that he was the victim in the altercation with a woman who was known to him. Priya Chaudhry added that evidence was being collected and presented to the District Attorney with the hope that all charges would be dropped soon.

“This evidence includes video footage from the vehicle where this episode took place, witness testimony from the driver and others who both saw and heard the episode, and most importantly, two written statements from the woman recanting these allegations.

“All the evidence proves that Mr Majors is entirely innocent and did not assault her whatsoever.”

Mr Majors’ arrest comes just weeks after the actor presented an award at the Oscars.

His career took off after breaking through in 2019’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco, before going onto to star in Netflix western The Harder They Fall and Marvel Comics film Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Mr Majors plays Jordan’s adversary in Creed III, a boxing film released earlier this month.
