Sem Sovanny, director-general of the National Centre for Peacekeeping Forces (NPMEC), asked that UN officials approve the deployment of 46 additional Cambodian blue-helmet peacekeepers and equipment to the UN peacekeeping mission in South Sudan.

In particular, floating bridges are needed by the UN peacekeepers.

The request came at a meeting between the head of Cambodian peacekeeping forces and UN Programme Management and Coordination Specialist Amy Weesner on November 23 at the NPMEC.

Sovanny also asked that tools for the explosive ordnance disposal unit be provided to the peacekeeping forces deployed to the Republic of Mali.

Cambodia is prepared to take part in the peacekeeping mission under the UN umbrella in the African Republic in the near future.

At the meeting, Weesner complimented the Cambodian government and Cambodian troops for their contribution to the peacekeeping missions.

She also extended a profound thanks to the Cambodian government for hosting the tripartite project of Cambodia, South Korea and the United Nations in 2023.
