Jordanian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Nayef Al-Fayez said on Tuesday that Jordan is one of the most important tourist destinations globally. Tourism Minister Nayef Al-Fayez noted that the tourism sector recorded high numbers this year, as the number of tourists who visited Jordan during the first eight months reached 3.174 million. Tourism income for the same period reached 2.5 billion Jordanian dinars. Al-Fayez stated, during the Ministry of Tourism’s celebration of World Tourism Day, which falls on September 27 of each year, under the slogan ‘Rethinking Tourism’, that 2022 will be the year of recovery from COVID-19 pandemic, as there is 90% recovery of the tourism income and 86% recovery of number of visitors compared to 2019. The tourism sector achieved a record number of 5.3 million visitors and 4.1 billion Jordanian dinars in revenues that counted for 13 percent of gross domestic product, as part of the National Tourism Strategy 2021-2025. The Ministry of Tourism stated that the period of stay of tourists in Jordan increased to ten days, which provides more income to the sector. Tourists A24 interviewed expressed appreciation to hospitality they received in Jordan, and facilities provided for them. They mentioned the security and stability in Jordan, and their importance in attracting more tourists, especially with tensions ongoing in various other regions in the world. They expressed happiness and admiration for the prominent archaeological landmarks they saw, such as the Roman Theater and the Citadel in Amman. They told A24, they look forward to visit other famous areas in Jordan, such as Umm Qais, and Petra that the Nabateans carved into rock, Wadi Rum, and Al-Maghtas where Jesus was baptized, which was designated as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
