Some Sulaymaniyah activists and students of Institutes of Fine Arts, with the support of the University of Sulaymaniyah, held an event about the Kurdish legend of Shammaran.

The story is about the queen of snakes, who is half snake and half woman. She saved a poor woodcutter who fell into a well full of snakes, in return she made him promise not to reveal her secret to anyone, but the woodcutter broke his promise because of the temptations of money by the ruler.

The snake of Shammaran was killed but it remained an icon of loyalty and nature to the Kurds. Shamiran is also seen as a source of goodness and healing among people.
