Peruvian President Pedro Castillo on Friday stressed that, along with his Ecuadorian counterpart Guillermo Lasso, they reaffirmed the responsibility to continue working for the integration of their peoples —mainly those from the border areas.

“We share multiple interests that stem from a long common border, such as integrated management of transboundary hydrographic basins, the fight against illegal mining and logging, the completion of binational mapping, as well as the promotion of trade and investment in our countries,” he indicated.
During the 14th Ecuador-Peru Binational Cabinet Meeting, the Head of State highlighted the firm commitment of both countries to face crime, drug trafficking, and inequalities.
This includes promoting the facilitation of the transit of people, goods, and services; access to health and high-quality education; the fight against cross-border crimes such as: arms trafficking and human trafficking, among others.
The top official underlined that this bilateral meeting will also contribute to evaluating the results of the work framed in the Tumbes Declaration, whose commitments were assumed since 2019.
“We have the firm willingness to work together with both countries’ sectors,” he said.
Mr. Castillo emphasized that the challenges faced by Peru and Ecuador nowadays must be tackled jointly, since there is a history that unites both peoples.
At the end of his speech, the Peruvian government official indicated that these meetings constitute the highest instance of diplomatic political dialogue.
