A number of Iraqi military and security experts and political analysts discussed the fallout of the war in Ukraine on the region, mainly Iraq as well as the international stances toward the crisis.

They said the war in Ukraine triggered a hike in the prices of crude oil globally, to the benefit of Iraq’s revenues from oil.

In a seminar session held in Baghdad to discuss the war in Ukraine, the officials pointed to the negative repercussions of the crisis on food security in Iraq which, like many other countries in the region including Arab states, already relies on grain imports from Russia and Ukraine.

The attendees warned that the war Russia waged on Ukraine might spread farther to engage other global powers thus affecting the political status quo in Iraq, which is already unstable.
