Three Taiwanese nationals, labeled as the criminal masterminds behind the massive mango farm drug operation, each faced the possibility of life sentences after prosecutors charged them with two crimes that could land them behind bars for life.

The Spokesman of the Prosecution Office, Plang Sophal, told local media at the Phnom Penh Municipal Court on the morning of December 20, that all three intend to traffic their drugs abroad. For their crimes, the Deputy Prosecutor, Seng Heang, charged them with “illegal production, transportation and trafficking of drugs” and “money laundering”.

According to the spokesperson, after the indictment, the prosecution sent the case to the investigating judge for further proceedings.

The three were arrested in a massive crackdown by the Anti-Drug Department of the Ministry of Interior on December 12. The raid took place in Kampong Speu.

The four drug traffickers opened fire on law enforcement officers who retaliated and killed one of the men.
