As Cambodia continues to march forwards with  ‘reopening’ – despite the Omicron mutation that is spreading rapidly around the world – The Kingdom once again recorded low daily new COVID case figures (diagnosed by PCR test) in an incredible run of 65 days of ‘new normal’ low case numbers.

Today’s official daily new COVID case total (diagnosed by PCR test) was 25, bringing the COVID case total to 120,232 cases.

On Monday, Cambodia joined Singapore and Thailand and other Asian countries in banning visitors from several African countries to prevent the spread of the dangerous new Omicron mutation.

Major fears have been raised over this new variant of COVID-19, which is reported to be highly transmissible, has a higher reinfection rate and has spread to America, Asia, Europe and Australia and many other countries.

However, PM Hun Sen announced on Thursday that he was considering lifting the travel ban on 10 African countries, saying “Now South Africa itself has confirmed that there is no problem and there are countries that have made several announcements about banning flights from this region.”

“I agree with the United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres Race who says that if countries ban flights from Africa, it seems to isolate those African countries to fight in the battlefield alone,”
