Aiming to find a profession that is not listed in Thailand’s textbooks or educational institutions, a group of fishermen in the Muang region founded the Nok Kala School, to teach local fishing careers to children and youth, to gain new and direct experience as an alternative to working in the business or industry sector, and also to maintain the local fishing profession in the Thai community. The founder of the school, Mr. Banjerd Udomsamuthiran, stated that the method of education in the school is unique and is not found in textbooks, but through experience and practical application at sea, stressing that 30 volunteers are working in the school. The founder of the school added that most of the people who come to study are university students, justifying that there are activities that need this age group, such as building fish houses, as well as going to the sea.
