17 Cambodians arrested for entering Thai borders

Seventeen Cambodian job seekers were reported arrested for illegal entry in Watthana Nakhon district of this eastern border province early on Tuesday.

About 5 am, a team of special operations police intercepted two cars driving through Watthana Nakhon district from the border with Cambodia on Highway 33.

The first car, a Chon Buri-registered Mitsubishi five-door sedan held 12 Cambodians – 10 men and two women. The car was driven by Decha Chaicharown, 34, a Thai from Chon Buri.

There were another five Cambodians, four men, and one woman, in the second car, a Chon Buri-registered Mitsubishi Mirage driven by Sakrin Wongsiriwattanakul, 35, from Si Sa Ket province.

The 17 Cambodians did not have travel documents or work permits.

They were charged with illegal entry and violating the emergency decree.

The two Thai drivers were charged with providing assistance to people who had illegally entered the country and violating the emergency decree.

All were handed over to Nong Mak Fai police in Watthana Nakhon district for legal proceedings.
