X-Press Pearl Captain released on bail – Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan Criminal Investigations Department arrested the captain of the burned container ship MV X-Press Pearl on Monday (June 14th), which caught fire in front of the port of Colombo on May 20th and was released on bail. In addition, the Colombo Supreme Court also banned the captain from traveling. Police spokesman Ajith Rohana said the captain was arrested at a hotel in the capital, Colombo, where he and other crew members were detained , and is now standing in a local superior court. Rohana said the criminal investigation department had previously recorded statements from the captain and several others, including the ship’s chief engineer, about the incident.
