Trần Đại Nghĩa Elementary School in Đà Nẵng has started a kitchen recycling system to reduce 60% of its monthly waste, saving VND 1 million (US $ 43) in waste handling fees while producing 100 kg of nutrient compost per month. The school there often disposes of six garbage containers a day, but now only two containers are transported to the landfill. It is the first school in Da Nang to apply waste treatment as part of the pilot “Waste-Free Schools” of the Building Healthy City (BHC) program – one of the East Meets West Organization’s key programs to build a healthy and clean learning environment for students from Schools in the city center. After passing one year of exams, a group of students and professors from Da Nang University of Technology and Education launched the first locally produced organic waste treatment system in central Vietnam.
