The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported on Wednesday that more than 59,000 families or about 230,000 individuals in the Bicol, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga regions have been affected by Typhoon Bising.
The DSWD’s Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) data said 59,098 families or 229,829 persons in 944 barangays have experienced the onslaught of the typhoon.
Among the victims, 5,535 families or 21,648 individuals stayed with relatives or friends, while the rest are sheltered in evacuation sites.
The DROMIC also reported that “Bising” has destroyed 82 houses and damaged 938 more.
About PHP171,000 worth of assistance to affected families has been handed out by the DSWD and the local government units (LGUs).
If the situation worsens, the DSWD Central Office will use a PHP1.5-billion standby fund to augment the assistance for the affected LGUs.
The DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Bureau said an additional PHP517 million could be used from the Quick Response Fund of its central office.
