In an aim to expand their leverage and fund their operations, Iranian-backed militias aim not only at transforming Iraq into a market for organ and drug trafficking but also into a passage road for smuggling and a hotbed for producing drugs. Iraqi activists illustrated that despite the governmental efforts to put an end to drug trafficking, the endless smuggling is adversely affecting society. Media activist Hussein Al-Baaj revealed that pro-Iranian armed militias, who run the drug trafficking business, are after furthering Iranian regime interests at the expense of the Iraqi nation.
