Israeli warplanes bombed Hamas and Islamic Jihad military sites in Gaza

Israel carried out airstrikes on Hamas and Islamic Jihad military sites in the Gaza Strip in response to missile attacks on Israeli towns. No casualties were reported but the attacks caused material damage. Palestinian factions fired several rockets at the town of Sderot, and a second round of rockets were launched after the Israeli attacks. The escalation followed Israeli police storming Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem and assaulting worshipers inside. Palestinian youths set tires on fire along the borders in the evening. Egypt and the UN were reportedly making efforts to restore calm in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem.
