National Salvation Front demands release of Ennahda Vice President

National Salvation Front in Tunisia denounced the decision to imprison Ennahda Movement Vice President, former Prime Minister Ali Laarayedh, on the charge of “deportation to hotbeds of tension”.

Ahmed Najib Chebbi, head of the National Salvation Front, stated, during a press conference held on Tuesday in Tunis, that arresting Laarayedh is unjustified, adding that the decision to imprison him is based on political agenda, as an attempt to divert public opinion, after the failure of the legislative elections and low participation rate, and called for his immediate release.

Laarayedh assumed his position as Minister of Interior from December 2011 until March 2013, during the coalition government, and as Prime Minister from March 2013 until January 2014.
