The gold and lithium exploration file in Jordan is witnessing a new official step today, Sunday, December 18, in light of the Kingdom’s interest in searching for rare minerals. The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources signed two memorandums of understanding with the Arab Mining Company, the first for lithium exploration in the Feynan area in Wadi Araba, and the second for gold exploration in the Jabal Mubarak area in Aqaba Governorate.
The two memorandums were signed, according to A24 correspondent, by Jordanian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Saleh Al-Kharabsheh, and Arab Mining Company’s General Manager, Hassan Al-Takrouri. The signing was attended by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eng. Amani Al-Azzam, the Director General of the Arab Mining Company (Fujairah), Eng. Taha Khawaldeh, the Director of Investments and Contributions in the Company, Eng. Muzaffar Al-Qadi, the Director of the Natural Resources Studies Directorate, Hisham Al-Zyoud, and the Director of Institutional Development and Planning at the Ministry of Energy, Shrooq Abdul-Ghani.
Minister Kharabsheh said in a press statement that the 12-month memorandum of understanding for the exploitation of gold in the Jabal Al-Mubarak region allows the Arab Mining Company to explore for lithium in an area of 50 square kilometers, by conducting geological studies and a geological survey of the exploration area, with the exception of areas within the boundaries of the exploration area. Natural, archaeological and geological reserves.
With regard to the 12-month memorandum of understanding for lithium exploration, Kharabsheh said that it allows Arab Mining to conduct exploration and excavation operations on a land of 35 square kilometers, with the exception of areas within the boundaries of natural, archaeological and geological reserves.
For his part, Hassan Al-Takrouri, General Manager of the Arab Mining Company, said that the two memorandums confirm the company’s direction towards expanding investment in the field of mining in Jordan, after previous successful experiences in the Kingdom, praising the cooperation with the Jordanian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The Arab Mining Company submitted earlier to the Ministry of Energy a letter of interest in which it expressed its desire to conduct prospecting studies to assess the economic feasibility of lithium and gold ore in the south of the Kingdom through direct supply of strategic ores.
