Jordan is preparing to hold the second Baghdad summit next Tuesday in the capital, Amman, with Iran’s first visit to Jordan.
It is expected that a meeting will be held between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi on the sidelines of the summit, which will be held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Center on the shores of the Dead Sea.
The source pointed out that the arrival of the Iranian foreign minister to Jordan to arrange a meeting between the Saudi crown prince and the Iranian president was the first of its kind.
According to the sources, Saudi Arabia’s demands at the meeting will focus on the war in Yemen and a new beginning for the two parties, while Iran will demand the opening of embassies, and the discussion will stop at this point.
The statement added that the conference would also discuss “challenges related to food security, drug security and energy security in the region and the world.”
Several countries, including Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, and other Gulf and Islamic countries, namely Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Iran, are participating in the conference, in addition to France, according to what the Elysee announced earlier.
French sources indicated that the summit would be in two phases: the first is an open session, followed by a break, and then a closed session. The purpose of this year’s summit is no different from last year’s, which is mainly to “help Iraq restore security, stability and prosperity, in addition to other regional issues related to Iraq.”
From the summit, Paris aspires to raise issues of concern to all countries in the region without exception, such as the repercussions of global warming, food security as a result of the Russian war on Ukraine, desertification, connecting electrical networks, and dealing with natural disasters.
On December 5, France announced that President Emmanuel Macron would participate in the conference
