Explosion in Taksim area of Istanbul leaves a number of deaths and injuries

An explosion took place on Sunday evening on Istiklal Street in Istanbul city center near Taksim Square, killing 6 and injuring 53 people. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a televised speech after the bombing: “Elements trying to undermine the Turkish state will not achieve their goal, we will expose the perpetrators of the bombing and they will be punished, terrorism will not achieve its goal.” The Turkish security prevented entry to Istiklal Street and demanded citizens not leave houses and shops in the area.
