Hundreds of Tunisians from the Civil Coalitiontook to the street on Friday evening in the center of the capital, Tunis, protesting against the new draft constitution and the referendum process. According to the campaign statement, the new draft “undermines the foundations of the civil, democratic state, and concentrates power on the rule of the absolute state.” Demonstrators held slogans against the new draft constitution, and raised banners that read “No to tyranny.” The march comes ahead of a referendum on a new constitution that Tunisian President Kais Saied put to a referendum on Monday, 25 July.
