The US military said that a US drone strike killed today a senior leader of an Al-Qaeda terrorist aligned militant group in northwestern Syria. The US Central Command said in a statement the strike in Idlib province targeted Abu Hamzah al Yemeni of Hurras al-Din. It said the 40-year-old Al Yemeni was traveling alone on a motorcycle when he was hit, adding there were no civilian casualties. The Command said al Yemeni killing will disrupt al-Qaeda’s attacks against civilians around the world. The Syrian Civil Defense Organization (White Helmets) confirmed the killing of al Yemeni. Since a 2020 ceasefire agreement reached by Moscow and Turkey, the main foreign broker in northern Syria, Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), has come under pressure to crack down on the myriad of other jihadist factions still present in the Idlib region.
