Another casualty to the current weather conditions in the country, particularly in the provinces, are livestock. The death of livestock is a loss to farmers who raise them to use in the preparing land to grow crops.

According to the report of the Police Inspectorate of Thmar Puok District, on May 31, five cows were killed in Kab Chor Village, Thmey Commune, Thmor Puok District, Banteay Meanchey.

On the day of the incident, at around 3:40 p.m., there was heavy rain mixed with strong winds and thunderstorms in four communes in Thmar Puok District: Kumro Commune, Thmar Puok Commune, Thmey Commune and Kork Kathin Commune.

The cows that were killed belonged to two farmers: Kot Sengky and Kun Kan. Both are from Kab Chor Village, Thmey Commune, Thmor Puok District.

The cows were tied in the open to allow them to graze, when the storm arrived and lightning struck the area they were in and killed five of the farm animals.

This is just the latest in the spate of livestock lost during this year’s rainy season. Authorities have called for farmers and residents to remain vigilant due to the weather phenomena.
