Mohammed bin Rashid biggest library makes over 1m books available

Mohammed bin Rashid library, the biggest in the region, has recently opened in Dubai at a total cost of one billion dirham.
The library aims to be a cultural center that provides opportunities for sharing the reading experience and support reading as a creative activity.
It also aims to facilitate the access of readers of different age groups, especially young people, to paper and digital books to spread culture and reading skills that support social development.
The Library, which houses more than 1.1 million books in 30 languages, spread over more than half a million square feet on seven floors and in nine thematic libraries.
Jamal Al Shehhi, Member of the Board of Directors of the Mohammed bin Rashid Library, told A24 News Agency’s reporter the nine libraries are: the Public Library, the Emirates Library, the Youth Library, the Children’s Library, the Special Collections Library, the Maps and Atlas Library, the Arts and Media Library, the Business Library, and the Periodicals Library.
It includes more than six million scientific theses, 73,000 music tracks, 57,000 videos, and 13,000 articles.
The Library also includes more than 5,000 historical papers and digital periodicals as an archive for 325 years, 35,000 paper and electronic journals from around the world, and nearly 500 rare collectibles.
Ibrahim Al Hashemi, also member of the Board of Directors of the Library, said the library, a distinguished one, provides modern technology services using the holography technique and provides automated systems of book order.
