Declaring state of emergency in Sulaimaniyah to combat outbreak of Cholera

Sulaymaniyah Governorate declared a state of emergency due to the outbreak of Cholera among its citizens.

Minister of Health in the Kurdistan Region, Saman Al-Barzanji, confirmed that hundreds of residents in Sulaimaniyah have been infected with Cholera epidemic.

He noted that the ministry has delivered urgently needed medical supplies; large quantities of medicines and treatment products worth millions of dollars to aid infected citizens.

The minister stated that “more than two hundred inmates in Sulaymaniyah prison have been infected, two of them have died so far.”

The Health Directorate has taken the necessary preventive measures including sending inspection committees, in cooperation with the governor of Sulaymaniyah, to greengrocers and eateries to examine food safety procedures in order to prevent further infections and contain the epidemic.
