Cambodia and Vietnam have committed to continue to do their best to further foster their bilateral relations and cooperation.
The commitment was underlined during courtesy visits made by Mrs Men Sam An, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, to General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in Hanoi, Vietnam on June 24.
Mrs Sam An, also Minister of the National Assembly-Senate Relations and Inspection, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party, and Chairwoman of the Cambodia-Vietnam Friendship Association, represented the Royal Government of Cambodia to attend and deliver remarks at the ceremony marking the 55th founding anniversary of the countries’ diplomatic ties held in Hanoi.
During the courtesy calls, both sides noted with satisfaction the development of the two countries’ friendly neighborliness and comprehensive cooperation, especially the maintenance of high-level contact and the effective implementation of cooperation mechanisms.
Bilateral trade has been on the rise, with Vietnam the largest ASEAN investor and one of the five biggest foreign direct investors in Cambodia. Partnerships in defense, security, education training, and locality-to-locality ties, especially between border provinces, have continued to be promoted.
Mrs Sam An stressed that during the past five decades, the Cambodian and Vietnamese parties and people have always stood side by side and thanked the great assistance of Vietnam’s Party, State, army, and people for Cambodia in its struggle for national liberation from the Pol Pot genocidal regime as well as its national construction and development cause.
Nguyen Phu Trong underscored the important meaning of the Vietnam-Cambodia Friendship Year, particularly the celebration of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 45th anniversary of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen’s path to overthrow the Pol Pot genocidal regime.
For his part, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly valued the coordination to successfully organize the celebration of the 45th anniversary of Hun Sen’s path to topple the Pol Pot genocidal regime on June 20.
