Yemeniyah market in downtown Amman sells new and secondhand clothing. It is one of the oldest markets in Amman and part of the city’s history. It was established in 1927 and is still standing today despite the fire that broke out in 1952.
It was named after the Yemeni tailors and clothing retailers who worked in the market and were the engine that kept it running.
Local character is prevalent in this market with regards to the simplicity of shops displaying clothes on their storefronts and selling them at low prices. The sources of the clothing vary, mainly European. Most of the current retailers inherited the shops from their fathers and grandfathers.
