Lightning strikes leads power outages in areas of Phnom Penh, Kandal

With the monsoon and the rainy season in full effect in Cambodia, energy poles are the latest victims of lightning strikes. Areas of Phnom Penh and Kandal have been left without power due to the damaged power lines.

According to the announcement of Electricite du Cambodge (EDC), power will be suspended in some areas in Phnom Penh and Kandal on the morning of May 19.

The EDC has confirmed that the power outage from substation 12 (GS12-F4) was caused by lightning strikes, and medium voltage (MV) outages, which caused power outages in some areas: Bek Chan Commune and Chok Chheu Neang Commune, Ang Snoul district, Kandal.

The EDC will also suspend power supply at P3857, P2326 and P3314 so that the technical team can move the medium voltage (MV) poles located at: Sangkat Teuk Thla, Sangkat O Bek Kam, Khan Sen Sok and Sangkat Steung Meanchey, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.
