Asian Archery Championship kicked off in Sulaimaniyah with the participation of 17 Asian teams. This is the first international championship hosted by Iraq after years of absence due to security issues.
This event is a positive step for Iraq toward reintegrating into international and sporting events. Secretary-General of the Iraqi Archery Federation, Kareem Hamad said that holding the Asian Archery Federation’s first championship in Iraq indicates that the country is safe and capable of organizing sporting events of such magnitude.
Teams participating in the championship include Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bangladesh, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Syria, Jordan, Palestine, Nepal, Pakistan, Yemen and Sudan as representatives of Africa.
