After Iraqi women achieved great progress in the parliamentary elections that were held on the tenth of last October, feminist organizations in Iraq hope that women’s participation in political life will be an important step for the approval of some laws relating to the status of women, family and children and the elimination of corruption.

The Iraqi constitution approved in 2005, stipulates that women hold no less than 25% (83 seats) of the total number of seats in the Iraqi parliament (329 seats), which is what happened in 4 previous parliamentary sessions.
