The difficult economic and living conditions in Aden south Yemen forced many residents and displaced people to collect and sell plastic bottles to pay for their daily needs. Collecting plastic has become one of the biggest means to make a living in Aden. Many dig through dumpsters for plastic bottles and food leftovers.
Ehab Ali, a citizen who collects plastic bottles said that desperation forced him to collect and sell plastic and the amount he makes in a day is about 5 thousand Yemeni Rial but it doesn’t cover his family’s basic needs.
The UN stated that the percentage of waste in Yemen is about 4 million tons, which isn’t being made use of. In addition to that, recycling with clean energy does not exist in Yemen. This means the amount of waste in Yemen is a fortune wasted.
