Cambodian MoE participates in implementing ecotourism program

The Ministry of Environment continues to highlight the importance of ecotourism to the economy and the creation of jobs in Cambodia.

With the decrease in Covid-19 cases, the development of ecotourism plays an increasingly important role in creating jobs, boosting the national economy and strengthening the local economy said the Ministry of Environment. The Ministry pointed out that during the Khmer New Year, people traveled to spend the holidays in different ecotourism destinations.

The Ministry said that on April 20, Prime Minister Hun Sen called for the continued implementation of community-based tourism, a tourism program that promotes the livelihood of local communities and contributes to the better protection and conservation of natural resources.

The development of ecotourism brings revenue to help manage Cambodia’s vast network of protected areas and protect the ecological services provided by natural resources.

The Ministry of Environment has strengthened the management of natural resources and the conservation of biodiversity, improving the livelihoods of 178 local communities so far.

In order to effectively and strengthen measures to protect and conserve natural resources, including forests, wildlife, and other biodiversity for future generations, the Ministry of Environment has provided technical support, budget, etc. to improve the living conditions of the community.

The Ministry also provides technical support and means to strengthen the capacity of ecotourism communities to increase the economy for local communities in order for them to contribute to the development and growth of the national economy and contribute to the effective management of natural resources.
