The National Election Committee (NEC) has called on political parties contesting in the June 5 commune council elections to strictly adhere to the law when giving media interviews to highlight their policies and manifesto to win the commune seats.
The media has also been called to be fair and balanced in their reporting, irrespective of the political party’s background.
The NEC held a meeting on Tuesday chaired by its deputy secretary-general Mok Dara with media representatives and civil society to discuss the matter.
He called on the broadcast media to allocate equal time for interviews with the registered political parties contesting the election and not be media biased.
Dara said the media, both print and broadcast, and civil society must strictly adhere to the law when conducting interviews with the political parties to ensure it is done in accordance with the law on the election of the commune council.
