Cambodia: at least 27 people dead, 59 injured in accidents across the country during the three-day KNY holidays
At least 27 people were dead and 59 others sustained serious injuries in traffic accidents across the country during the three-day Khmer New Year holidays, according to police.
In a report, police said that at least 21 people sustained slight injuries due to accidents on April 14, 15, and 16.
Police said that eight traffic accidents occurred on the first day of the holidays, killing three and injuring 15.
At least 25 cases of traffic accidents happened, killing 16 and injuring 34 in 16 provinces across the Kingdom.
On April 14, seven provinces had traffic accidents. Banteay Meanchey had two deaths, Svay Rieng one death, and three injuries, Phnom Penh four injured, Takeo three injured, Stung Treng two injured, and Kandal with two injured.
The accidents killed three in Kampong Cham, three in Stung Treng, two in Kampong Thom, two in Kratie, one each in Koh Kong, Phnom Penh, Prey Veng, Ratanakiri, Tboung Khmum, and Kampong Speu, according to police.
The second day saw eight deaths and 31 injuries due to accidents.
Pursat province had three deaths on the last day of the Khmer New Year holidays, two in Banteay Meanchey, one in Kampong Speu, and one in Prey Veng.
