Sri Lankans have been calling on the government to take prompt action to address the national energy crisis, demanding that the authorities think outside the box and consider the installation of solar panels on rooftops.
Activist Asela Sampath blamed the government for the lack of action. He said that in the hundreds of thousands, Sri Lankans are now calling for the installation of solar panels.
“We told the president; you have the power to take over the bureaucracy immediately and take action against this government official mafia,” explaining that the Society of Engineers disrupted the solar panels’ renewable energy program.
Hon. President Gotabaya Rajapakse said his government has been for years now trying to diagnose the situation and identify the problems, adding that what matters is to implement the project “practically.”
The President had carried out an inspection visit to engage with the officials from the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority on the possibility of further using Hydro, Wind, and Solar energy for electricity generation.
