Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia – As the Ukraine crisis rages and the situation seems to be more going downhill, Mongolians, who share a large land border strip with Russia have started to feel the weight of the war and how it can affect their destiny and that of the region and world at large.

Ulaanbaatar residents have expressed their thoughts, worries, and concerns for the region going forward, as they worried that the war will
have a direct impact on their economy, expecting a rise in staples and foodstuffs.

They indicated that their country is heavily reliant on Russian crude, as they highlighted the fuel prices are increasing at an alarming rate.

“This war will affect our country. It will have a huge impact on the economy. Starting with rising fuel prices. We get everything from Russia and China. We get food from China, electricity from Russia,” one resident said.

Most interviewed explained that the war is unjustifiable and said they all root for peace, blaming media and the press for not reflecting reality and
waging a media and disinformation war.

Some, whoever, attributed the conflict to the fact that the conflict originated when Ukraine was pushing to become a member state of NATO,
something Russia strongly opposes.

Some residents in Ulaanbaatar feared that if Russia faced an economic embargo, Mongolia will face the same embargo as well.

“Mongolia is also affected by the fact that it imports a lot of things from Russia. The consequences of this war are expected to be severe in Mongolia. Today, the price of fuel will increase,” locals said.

Meanwhile, many in Ulaanbaatar said they want the war to be brought to an end, and the dispute between the two countries should be resolved peacefully, regardless of who is right.
