In cooperation with the Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage, the Directorate of Antiquities in Sulaimaniyah inaugurated Kurdistan’s first center for conservation, restoration, and preservation of manuscripts.
The Gerda Henkel Foundation and the Technical University of Munich (TUM) funded the project, which was attended by officials of Kurdistan. The center aims to preserve manuscripts that transmit Iraqi history from damage and extinction.
Organizers aspire to transform the building designated for the preservation of manuscripts into an institute to train and qualify cadres in the region.
