United Nations World Food Programme has warned that Yemen’s food crisis is worsening with many families surviving on trees, especially in the worst-affected areas such as Hajjah Governorate. In its report, the program said that hunger in the countries experiencing a devastating war is approaching catastrophic levels.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) stated that the condition of Yemeni children has become a “miserable and unbearable hell”, amid one of the largest humanitarian crises, in which more than 21 million people including more than 11 million children, need urgent and immediate assistance.
The WFP warned of the severe lack of health facilities and clean water, as well as the fact that at least 10,000 children have been killed or injured since the war kicked off, and thousands more have been recruited into the fighting with an estimated 1.7 million children displaced.
The organization emphasized stopping the violence and establishing a political solution as the only way to save the lives of Yemeni children.
Doctors working in those areas warned of the outbreak of diseases like fever, malaria, and respiratory infections, while some notables called for providing better health care and vaccinations for children.
