Munis Abu Shamala from Khan Yunis in Gaza defies his paralysis and makes a living by producing handloom rugs. He invented a special crochet hook, given his disability.

Munis joined Al Amal Center for Training and Human Development affiliated with the Palestine Red Crescent Society where he learned weaving on the handloom.

Despite the technological development in weaving machines, he insists on preserving this craft as he believes handloom rugs represent a symbol of the Palestinian heritage. For weaving one single carpet, it takes from one to two months.
