Iraqi Woman Challenges Gendered Jobs Stereotypes and Runs Car Repair Shop

Despite prevailing gender stereotypes and social norms that restrict some jobs to men, coupled with a lack of job opportunities, Mayson Hassan, an Iraqi woman, is running an automobile repair shop to make a living.

The automobile shop offers car washing services and repairing American, German, and Japanese motors.

She learned the profession from her father when she was 14 years old. Mayson, who has a Bachelor’s degree in the Arabic Language, hopes she gets a loan to expand her shop, by making appeals for government support, just like the government in Emirates that embraced a similar project by a woman.
