In an unprecedented move, Halabja governorate launched its first-ever Saanen goat project, with 1000 tons of milk yield and 25 tons of meat production expected annually. This economic breakthrough is deemed a qualitative leap in livestock production in Iraq, considering the high quality of the Austrian Saanen goat’s meat and milk, which is of high nutritional and biological value in terms of calcium, phosphorous, and salts that exceed what other types of milk offer. It is worth mentioning that the project, which complies with the Global Food Safety Initiative’ criterion, started off with 560 goats with an absorptive capacity of breeding 1000.
