Naval forces in the fifth military district detected marine mines laid by Houthi forces in the Red Sea. About 5 marine mines were destroyed, and another 3 were detected by the demining team.

This came after Houthi militias planted 15 marine mines. Demining teams are in the process of clearing the area from these life-threatening mines. During the last year, at least 42 marine mines were destroyed, including 27 that were detected only in November and December. Furthermore, naval forces foiled attacks launched by 5 booby-trapped boats.

In this respect, the Saudi- led coalition spokesman, Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki said that Iran-backed Houthi rebels are engaging in piracy acts, posing a threat to international navigation. In a press conference held last Saturday, Al-Maliki reiterated that Houthi militias have launched 100 booby-trapped boats, adding that the coalition forces cleared 248 marine mines in the south of the Red Sea. He pointed out that Houthi militias committed 13 attacks on cargo ships which poses a serious threat to global trade.
