After UNESCO has officially added Arabic calligraphy to its Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, many calligraphers in Sulaymaniyah expressed their delight. The move stirred demands to support them by holding exhibitions and participating in international forums. With technological advancements, the inscription of Arabic calligraphy became less of a job. Therefore, calligraphers blamed cultural institutions for paying scant regard to this art, mainly by failing to introduce it in international forums. It is worth mentioning that the proposal to add Arabic calligraphy to UNESCO’s list was made by 16 Arabic-speaking countries, including Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Morocco, Iraq, and Egypt.
