Thailand provided $150,000 in medical supplies for Cambodia as host ASEAN Summit 2022

The Royal Government of Thailand has announced its support for the Royal Government of Cambodia to host the ASEAN Summit in 2022.

In addition, the Thai government provided some medical equipment to the Royal Government of Cambodia, including equipment for testing RT-PCR for SARS-CoV-2 at a cost of approximately $150,000.

These medical supplies will be donated to Poipet Referral Hospital and Mongkul Borei Hospital, Banteay Meanchey Province.

The handover ceremony of the RT-PCR and SARS-CoV-2 test equipment was presided over by Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, and Deputy Prime Minister Don Pramat Vinay, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on December 18, 2021, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

During the joint conference, Mr Don Pramat Vinay, on behalf of the Royal Government of Thailand, expressed his support for Cambodia in preparing for the 2022 ASEAN Summit, which Cambodia will host.

Deputy Prime Minister Prak Sokhon thanked Thailand for supporting Cambodia in hosting the 13th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) last month and for hosting the ASEAN Summit in 2022 as well.

Hosting the ASEAN Summit in 2022 is the third time for Cambodia to host this important regional summit and summit after becoming a member of ASEAN on April 30, 1999, and hosting the summit for the first time in 2002 and again in 2012.

Prime Minister Hun Sen has emphasized that as the chair of ASEAN in 2022, Cambodia will lead the joint efforts of ASEAN to achieve more important achievements. In particular to promote the momentum of the process of building an ASEAN community that is equitable, strong, and environmentally in line with the core spirit of ASEAN is a vision, an identity, and a community.

Mr Hun Sen also affirmed that the three priority tasks that Cambodia will undertake as the host of this meeting are: political and security pillars, economic pillars, and socio-cultural pillars.
