In the first 11 months of 2021, the Public Works Ministry caught more than 700,000 overweight vehicles.
The ministry reported that a total of 2,334,371 vehicles were inspected with 739,538 vehicles found to be overweight equal to 31.68%, of which 736,735 overweight vehicles were exempted and 2,803 overweight vehicles were fined.
From October 18 to December 19, the working group seized 48 overweight vehicles, which were detained following the guidelines of Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen.
In the future, the Standing Committee of the Overweight Transport Inspection Steering Committee will continue to disseminate information and explain the laws related to overweight transport limits to vehicle owners, transport business owners, construction sites, quarrying, sand depots and the general public to be more widely aware of the standards.
In particular, Articles 26 and 60 of the Law on Roads and Notification No 049 tighten additional measures for heavy vehicles driving on the road network across the country.
The team will continue to enforce the law and prevent overweight vehicles on the roads without exception. CCTV cameras will continue to be installed and some weigh stations will use Artificial Intelligence and motion sensors to monitor the performance of officers on duty at the stations.
