Kurds Celebrate the Longest Night of the Year
Kurds in Sulaymaniyah held festivals to celebrate Yaldā Night, which marks the longest night of the year that corresponds to the eve of December 20/21. The social occasion brings together friends and families, who enjoy the eve by holding feasts and concerts. It is worth mentioning that such a celebration is held in high regard among Kurds, who always make huge preparations for such an eve. Moreover, there is a widespread belief that eating pomegranate on this particular night will protect one from all diseases for a whole year, not to mention that it brings luck.
