The Khlong Suan Market, in Bang Bo District, Samut Prakan Province, goes back to King Rama V, around 1900, and has been open for service until now. For a total of more than 120 years, the atmosphere in the market is still preserved close to the past. Most of the items sold are food and antique pieces, in addition to some imports from China and items that are difficult to be bought from other markets, such as betel nut and betel leaves. Thai people would consume a lot of betel nut in the past, however as the era changed and the world progressed, the popularity of eating betel nut decreased, and Thai people don’t actually like eating betel nut, but it is only eaten by foreigners.
