Cambodian military officer killed in car collision with truck

The accident happened around midnight on December 7. The scene of the collision is at Tang You Village, Orda Commune, Kamrieng District, Battambang.

Police identified the deceased as Hong Chan, a 53-year-old male. Chan was a military officer in the 53rd Infantry Brigade. Chan was driving a black Lexus Rx.300 with license plate Phnom Penh 2I.0908.

According to witnesses at the scene, the container truck and the officer’s car were traveling in the same west to east direction. The officer was driving the car at a decent speed, but when he reached the location of the accident, the car suddenly crashed into the back of the truck at full force.

The driver was crushed in his car. The police and villagers removed the body from the wreckage.

Witnesses are not sure whether he was driving under the influence or not. Police said that the accident was caused by careless driving and speeding.

Both vehicles are currently in police custody. The body was handed over to the deceased’s family for funerary rites.
