Cambodian gov’t carries out ambitious clean water project in Pursat

A government official stated the commitment to provide the people of Pursat City with clean water by 2025 and the entire province by 2030.

This was stated by the Senior Minister of the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Cham Prasidh. The Senior Minister stated this at the groundbreaking ceremony for the Pursat Water Supply Expansion Project under the grant assistance of the Royal Government of Japan.

The ceremony was also attended by the Ambassador of Japan to Cambodia, Mikami Masahiro.

Senior Minister Prasidh also said that the funding for the water supply expansion project amounted to more than $22 million. The project will build infrastructures capable of supplying 6,600 cubic meters of water per day. The project will be completed in three years.

According to the Senior Minister, currently Pursat only as one clean water source located in Po Ta Kuy Village, Sangkat Lolok Sor, Pursat City. This source only supplies water to the city and districts near the city.

Senior Minister expressed his optimism and said once the water supply project is accomplished, people in the province will no longer have to drink untreated water. The project is part of the government’s poverty reduction plan.
